Do you want the latest news about HostGator?
Why people like or dislike it.
What’s the reason?
You are in the right place to get all the answers here.
HostGator may be one of the largest and oldest web hosting companies in the industry. However, in the last 16 months, average uptime is still improving to 99.98%.
Customer service was instantly connected via live chat and answered all questions in seconds. The basic, shared hosting plan includes unlimited storage, bandwidth, free domain (first year), and free SSL certificate.
Unfortunately, the page’s average load time (1007 ms average) make them down. Many additional services, such as backup and security, are processed at an additional fee. In addition, after the first term expires, the rate of extension increases sharply.

Benefits of Using HostGator Shared
The uptime of HostGator has been a problem in recent years. But based on 16 months of follow up, not anymore.
Also, customer service was quick and friendly. They help you get your website up and running for free. Beginners will appreciate many simple and intuitive options to guide them.
Here is a brief summary:
1. Powerful and stable running time of 99.98%
HostGator has achieved 99.98% availability in the last 16 months. And that’s mainly due to the bad month of December 2017. Since then, there have been almost no flaws between 99.99% and 100%.
It’s not even the best. The reason is consistent. According to the availability guarantee, if this month’s account drops below 99.9%, the account will be credited this month.
Scheduled maintenance or unforeseen hacks are not covered under this warranty. However, to request a credit, you must submit a support ticket to the billing department within 30 days.
Recently, some other hosts show availability guarantees, so all customers eventually win. Competitors doing this raise the bar for the entire industry. All other market participants are at risk of meeting their warranties and raising or falling behind standard service levels.
2. Average Uptime of HostGator for the Last 16-Month:
- March 2019 average uptime: 99.99%
- February 2019 average uptime: 100%
- January 2019 average uptime: 100%
- December 2018 average uptime: 100%
- November 2018 average uptime: 100%
- October 2018 average uptime: 99.99%
- September 2018 average uptime: 99.95%
- August 2018 average uptime: 100%
- July 2018 average uptime: 99.99%
- June 2018 average uptime: 99.99%
- May 2018 average uptime: 100%
- April 2018 average uptime: 99.96%
- March 2018 average uptime: 99.95%
- February 2018 average uptime: 100%
- January 2018 average uptime: 99.98%
- December 2017 average uptime: 99.94%
3. Reliable Customer Support (at least we think so …)
HostGator provides a knowledge base, telephone, email and live chat customer support. Their live chat is the fastest and connects you with a service representative within 15 seconds.
As a test, I teased her with a question and tried to jump from topic to topic, but she did not hesitate once. Staff are competent, well-educated and friendly. It was a totally good experience.

4. 45 days money-back guarantee
HostGator is confident that the industry-standard 30-day refund policy will be extended from approximately two weeks to 45 days.
That means you can use it for a month and purchase it again in case something goes wrong.
This 45-day money-back guarantee applies to all shared, reseller and VPS hosted packages.
The only issue does not apply to the purchase of HostGator’s dedicated servers, administration costs, or domain names. This booking is very common as it has been made through ~ 33 different terms and conditions.
This only applies to the shared, reseller, and VPS hosting packages, not dedicated servers, administrative fees, custom software installation fees, or domain name purchases. If your plan includes a free domain name, the domain’s base rate of $ 15.00 will be deducted from the refund amount.
But there are a few other things to consider.
In fact, it can take up to 90 days to process your refund. Checks, money orders, Western Union payments or bank transfers are also non-refundable.
Refunds are only available for new plans or accounts. So if you cancel your extension or second attempt while already subscribed to one, you won’t get anything.
Finally, foreign currency repayments are processed based on the US dollar exchange rate.
5. Available site security features
HostGator’s shared hosting plan is very simple. Enough for your website, but not enough extras.
Fortunately, it provides additional security features, such as the ability to add SiteLock monitoring to your site. The service runs daily and finds potential security loopholes or hacks on your website and notifies you immediately when it finds them.
It also provides an email plan to prevent spam from entering spam inbox in the first place.
The only downside is that SiteLock costs a bit more. The disadvantages are described below, but the sticker price is $ 1.67 per month and is billed at $ 19.99 per year.
6. Free site and cPanel migration
If this is not your first site and you want to replace your existing site, HostGator has support.
After logging in, you need to stay in touch for 30 days and move files, databases, scripts, and domain names.
This includes the entire cPanel transfer. So if you have a multi-site installation (e.g. a subdomain of a large site), that will apply.
All HostGator shared hosting plans come with a single site (or cPanel) migration. You have more access to a variety of plans like resellers (up to 30).
Single free site migrations are not comparable with some hosts. But it’s still better than other products like Bluehost which charges $ 150 for moving to up to five sites at once.
7. Very easy to use for beginners
HostGator is designed for beginner bloggers or webmasters.
Visit that website for many tutorials, walkthroughs, and more to help you navigate the dark world of DNS and data centres.
It also provides additional features for beginners who want to set up a website without hiring others to design, build, and manage their content.
HostGator’s Gator Website Builder is one of the things we tested. It comes with free hosting and a domain name, so you only need to buy a single account for all your needs.
Customizable templates are very modern at first and you can easily customize their appearance by dragging and dropping each feature. You will also receive site analytics and a free SSL certificate to protect your visitors’ personal information (e.g. physical location).
HostGator’s Gator also comes with an e-commerce plan so you can set up a full-featured online inventory repository and more without having to worry about payment gateways, plugins or other messy technologies.
Disadvantages of Using HostGator Shared
The consistently high uptime of HostGator is, frankly, amazing (in a good way). We are also fans of their availability guarantee.
In addition, the beginner-friendly approach and useful customer service offer a lot.
Unfortunately, we ran into some problems when we tried it. The biggest problem is:
1. Slow page speed (more than 1 second to load)
The HostGator server has had no problem maintaining the website for the past year.
The problem is that the same server is constantly slow. In the last 16 months, the average load time of a page was only 1007ms.
It takes more than a second to load a relatively simple text-based content page. Imagine what happens when you load
Thousands of words and dozens of high-resolution images aren’t good.
Slow load times have been shown to have a direct impact on the visitor’s experience. And it also affects when you increase your profits.
There are a few things you can do to speed up your site without switching hosts. But if the host’s speed is constantly slow, then he is constantly fighting in the battle.
Average load time in the last 16 months:
2. Many additional costs for “true” backup, Gmail and malware
HostGator’s shared hosting service is inexpensive. The introductory price starts at $ 2.75 per month (36 months).
The cheapest rates (“Hatchling”) include one-click installs of popular apps like single domain names, WordPress, Joomla, unlimited bandwidth, unlimited storage, and free SSL certificates. Essentially all the key features you need for a complete website.
But this is all about what the basic plan provides. All additional items such as site backups, Gmail access, SiteLock Monitoring, and SEO tools incur additional costs upon checkout.
It’s disappointing that many of the following features have been carefully formulated on the website. Example: “available”. If you look at the other top hosts you’ve reviewed, you’ll see that many hosts actually include hosts at their base price.
Only after the process is completed and you have entered your billing information will these additional features incur additional costs.
Gmail defaults to $ 5 per month or $ 60 per user per year. This is a normal price. However, SiteLock is $ 19.99 a year, CodeGuard (site security) is $ 23.95 a year, and it doesn’t save a lot of older versions of the site if something goes wrong.
The initial plan is at first glance less expensive, but if you say everything and complete it, it will be expensive.
3. Industry-standard pricing Tactics
In addition to the surcharge, HostGator uses two industry-standard pricing methods.
The first is to promote a low price of $ 2.75 / month, so you’ll see that you actually have to pay three years in advance. Otherwise, you will be charged $ 10.95 per month for the actual performance of the month.
HostGator share price breaks for long term planning
This is just the beginning. In addition, renewal fees for HostGator will increase significantly when the original plan expires.
Let’s say you stick to this low rate for three years. You will undoubtedly make a pretty good deal.
The problem begins when you renew your plan in three years. Currently, monthly instalments for the same plan go to $ 6.95 / month (or $ 250.20 total). More than twice the amount you just paid for the same service.
In essence, we are taking advantage of the fact that service changeability is very low after a few years. Therefore, it is locked for a while, like a cable company or a gym member.
Many other hosts we’ve identified use the same stunt. That’s right.

HostGator Shared Web Hosting Plans vs Others
Do you recommend HostGator Shared?
HostGator’s shared hosting offers many benefits.
Availability has actually improved over the past year.
Customer service was good. Easy to use with a variety of options that are familiar to beginners.
But the combination of slow speed and the additional price increase is so expensive that it can not be considered valuable.
The reason we do not recommend it is that it has a better option in the store, which actually gives a good value for money.
HostGator’s WordPress cloud hosting is a bit more expensive on paper. But performance is also much better.
Therefore, adding these extra charges and price increases will pay the same amount at the end of the day, so we recommend that you first review it.
